Can Older Babies Be Photographed?

Newborn photographers around the world have created a ‘newborn time line” for when it’s best to photograph babies, and while I love photographing tiny little peanuts with no baby acne, and ones I can easily pose and squish into a bucket, the truth is they do not neeeeeed to be under two weeks old. Is it easier, ABSOLUTELY! But can you still get gorgeous photographs of your older newborn? Well, you tell me!

This little chunk is 7 week old here. TOES TO HER NOSE and all!! She loved being wrapped and even slept the entire session. Unicorn baby? Well, duh she’s perfect, but babies do like sleep, y’all!! It is possible to photograph older babies. In fact, I’ve even photographed a 10 week old baby!

Don’t let the Pandemic scare you out of tiny memories you want to remember forever. Tiffany and her husband, Bryce, weren’t sure if they should bring their baby to my studio with all that is going on in the world so we didn’t book anything after their maternity session. Skip to one month after baby and Tiffany reaches out to book something. At that time I was going to be in the Grand Canyon photographing the Elopement with Mary-Kate and Jake so we pushed this newborn session off farther for safety between travel dates and quarantine. Tiffany was worried we wouldn’t get very many good shots since you know the ‘newborn rule’ is to photograph babies ‘under two weeks’ and her baby would be 7 weeks old for our session… Well, Tiffany chose 40 images in her gallery-20 images over her included package! Guys, tell me again if babies neeeeeeed to be under 2 weeks old to be photographed…. I’ll wait. Ha!
