The days are long, but the years are short….

Not sure who first said that, but I remember thinking, ‘yeah but if only the nights could be a little longer, that’d be greaaaat’, LOL!

It is true, though, it goes by so fast! I’m here to help pause time a bit so you never have to forget how tiny and squishy your babe was.

Newborn Prep

Let’s chat about “all the things” for your upcoming newborn session!

Below I will go over all of the details of what to expect from our session and give you some very important information to ensure we have a successful photoshoot.

What to Bring:

  • the cutest baby ever

  • paci

  • breastmilk/formula

  • diapers

  • blanket

  • snacks for mom and dad

Dressing Baby:

On the day of the session, it is easiest to put baby in a zip up onesie or gown. Please do not dress them in anything that goes over their head. This can wake them and make them fussy. You also will not need to bring any additional clothing to the session. I have newborn outfits/wrap options that match my photography style and that will compliment baby well. If you have a special heirloom or teddy, please let me know beforehand so I can work that into our set-ups.

Feeding Baby:

If you are a breastfeeding mama, please avoid spicy foods for at least 2-3 days before our session. Spicy foods make for a gassy baby, and a gassy baby makes for hard posing. Please try not to drink any coffee or caffeinated drinks before or during the session if you are breastfeeding.

Please keep baby awake for as long as possible before leaving for the session-Give baby a bath, or change diaper to help keep baby awake. Babies are known for sleeping so if this isn't working, pleaseeeeee do not stress about following my suggestions :)

Right before you leave for our session, feed your baby, try and burp them, then immediately place him or her in the car seat to leave. Babies seem to love to give a nice'ol blow out right when you decide to leave the house, so just be prepared haha!

Tips:

  • Paci’s are fun topic, BUT it’s very helpful having them during the session. I will only be using it as needed throughout the 2hr session to settle baby. I know some babies don't love them, and some babies are breastfed, but it can be very helpful even when placed near the mouth.

  • Babies eat A LOT and will probably eat more than normal during the session. Please bring an extra bottle, or you're welcome to nurse in my studio if you are a breastfeeding momma! I want you to feel comfortable in my studio so bring whatever you need to feed your baby <3

  • It’s best that only two adults or mom/dad come at a time and if you have siblings being photographed its best to have a grandparent or trusted adult bring them at the very end of the session if possible! I understand if this is not always possible, so please bring quiet activities for your children.

A few more things:

The session usually lasts about 2-3 hours depending on how well baby does and how sleepy they are. This is a good time to sit and relax, catch up on some shut-eye, or mindlessly scroll your socials!

As soon as you arrive we will get to work! I’ll wash my hands, mask-up and steal your baby for some snuggles and start wrapping or posing immediately. I'll do my best to get through as many poses as baby will allow, but I follow their cues. If they are not happy in a pose, I will not force them and we will move on to a different shot. We go with the flow!

Both Brandi and Paige will wear masks and will frequently wash and sanitize hands throughout the newborn session. The studio is always cleaned before and after clients arrive. All items used during a session are cleaned after in the wash, though some materials cannot be washed, and are shaken outdoors, spot cleaned and lysoled. Our studio floor is mopped before and after sessions with Pine-Sol, carpets are vacuumed and the bathroom surfaces are cleaned with Lysol wipes, Lysol spray, and Clorox Toilet Bowl Cleaner.

Cannot wait to meet you and snuggle your babe!
